eating in a chinese restaurant, late at night. am the only customer as the owner, a middle-aged lady, switches on some cheesy chinese pop to keep me company. somehow a cloud of wong-kar wai descends on the environment, mixes with the food and the music.

eating in an indian restaurant. this time it's cheesy bollywood, which for some strange reason, i try to sing along to, to entertain myself. the clientele of this restaurant in a somewhat run-down environment of san lorenzo is very interesting. there is a table with two new york girls of indian origin, and possibly doing some kind of a medical internship in here. the other table has an old british couple, who, it seemed, looked quite hard for a curry house to feel like home.
i kept wondering where i placed myself in this multinational space.
