the bedside table

the concept of the bedside table is quite widespread in my room, judging by the fact that the bed is the central entity in the room, and every flat surface around it qualifies as some form of a bedside table. in its strictest definition, it must be the bit above the small chest of drawers near the top end of the bed. and here's what i see.

a high-fidelity speaker balanced on some old conference proceedings, which in turn sit on a book of statistical experiment design, which in turn is precariously balanced on a book on signal detection theory. of course, i have not quite gotten to read these books, much as i would have loved to. at the edge stands a loyal tub of ma-made namkeen, which of course obscures the old mobile phone and an issue of the journal 'brain' from immediate sight. on top of everything is russell's problems in philosophy, which is competing for space with oliver sacks' musicophilia. just before i sleep, my glasses would go on top of all this.
