singing on the river

just back from this year's singing on the river by the trinity choir on the punts , and they sang this as they punted past the bend of the river into johnsland. i have seen this for several years now, and yet there is something quite magical about it that i feel everytime. the late evening glow on the sky, the lanterns on the punts, the summer faces relieved on just having finished the exam season, strawberries and cream. and then there is the other lot, whose eighteenness shines forth through the unguarded gaps in the foliage.
